Youth Culture and Empowerment - Haiti (Caribbean, Mexico and Central America)

Nose-Régent believes that rampant disease within his community could be prevented with some basic environmental attention. The spread of diseases such as typhoid, cholera, and even HIV/AIDS has been linked to unhealthy conditions and persistent poverty. Nose-Régent aims to reduce the proliferation of disease through a campaign to revamp his town’s environmental attitudes and practices. He hopes that by enlisiting the support and assistance of the city council and other community groups, the training and gainful employment of young people in environmental management will stem the growth of both disease and poverty.

Nose-Régent sees OIYP2004 as an opportunity to find out how adverse environmental conditions impact upon the lives of young people in other developing countries, and what measures may be taken to improve their living standards.
